Emmanuel Adjei cycles 10,000km solo from Munich to Accra to raise €100,000 to support education in rural communities

In June, Emmanuel Adjei will start a 10,000km cycling journey. He will travel from Munich to Teshie, Ghana.

Emmanuel believes this is the first solo adventure of its kind for an African. He aims to raise €100,000 for EduSpots, a registered NGO in Ghana and the UK. His goal is to inspire others to support education and enjoy cycling across Africa.

EduSpots connects and trains over 400 local Catalysts. They create fun and community-focused education in 50 underserved communities through spaces called ‘Spots’. This year marks their 10th anniversary.

EduSpots plans to expand from 50 Spots to 100 by 2026. Emmanuel was born in Accra and works as a sports scientist in Munich's hospital for sports medicine.

He says, “I want to use cycling to raise funds and awareness.” He aims to ignite community-led change through education in underserved Ghanaian areas.

Emmanuel’s love for cycling started in Ghana, a “sports-enthusiastic nation.” He learned to ride his father’s bike without permission but lacked proper infrastructure there.

Later, he rediscovered his passion for cycling in Munich. The city has better cycling facilities than Ghana. Since 2020, he has enjoyed road cycling and bikepacking across Europe.

His project, Bike2MyRoots, addresses educational gaps he saw firsthand in Ghana. He wants to use cycling's power to promote education.

His journey will raise awareness about the importance of education. It also aims to fund sustainable local education initiatives.

Emmanuel hopes to inspire others to pursue their dreams while giving back. He wants everyone to have equal opportunities for participation.

Adu Bohaen Carlos is the Chairperson of EduSpots’ Catalyst Committee. He wishes Emmanuel success on his journey: “Let’s turn your passion into education for everyone!”

Emmanuel's journey starts on June 7, 2025, with an expected arrival in Ghana on September 7, 2025.
