It was an emotional Mother’s Day at Tema General Hospital. Broadcaster and women’s advocate Gifty Anti paid the medical bills for 21 new mothers. This allowed them to be discharged after weeks of being stranded.
In total, over GH¢51,000 was paid to cover their hospital fees.
This gesture was part of the Gifty Anti Foundation’s Mother’s Day outreach. It provided a lifeline for many women who faced financial constraints. Some had been unable to leave the hospital for more than two weeks.
One beneficiary's family suffered a tragic loss. A woman passed away after 17 years of childlessness due to complications from a Caesarean Section. The foundation fully covered her medical bills, offering some relief to her grieving family.
The initiative helped over 100 women in various wards. In total, 85 new mothers received gift packages celebrating their babies' arrivals. Additionally, 20 mothers were given new clothes for postpartum recovery.
During the donation event, Gifty Anti spoke about the importance of support for vulnerable women. She emphasized that men should also contribute to this cause.
The foundation's efforts were supported by Micheam Foundation, Dankyi Mireku RTW, Dede Classics, and other individual donors. Their contributions amplified the impact of this initiative.
Five more women are expected to be discharged soon thanks to additional donations from well-wishers.
