It was an emotional Mother’s Day at Tema General Hospital. Broadcaster Gifty Anti paid the medical bills for 21 new mothers. This allowed them to be discharged after being stranded for weeks.
In total, over GH₵51,000 was paid to cover hospital fees. This gesture was part of the Gifty Anti Foundation’s Mother’s Day outreach. It provided a lifeline for many women who faced financial constraints.
Some women had been unable to leave the hospital for more than two weeks. One beneficiary's family suffered a tragic loss after 17 years of childlessness. The woman passed away from complications after a Caesarean section. The foundation covered her medical bills, offering some relief to her grieving family.
The initiative also reached over 100 women in various wards. Eighty-five new mothers received gift packages celebrating their babies' arrivals. Twenty others were given new clothes to aid their postpartum recovery.
This effort was supported by Micheam Foundation, Dankyi Mireku RTW, Dede Classics, and individual donors. Their contributions helped amplify the impact of the initiative.
Five more women are expected to be discharged soon due to additional donations from well-wishers.
