Energy and Green Transition Minister John Jinapor has exposed procurement irregularities and suspected corruption within the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), revealing that over 1,300 containers meant for the power distributor have vanished from Tema Port.
Speaking on TV3, he attributed the scandal to systemic procurement violations under the previous Akufo-Addo administration.
Jinapor described the situation as alarming and called for a forensic audit to trace the missing containers and hold those responsible accountable. He further disclosed that ECG’s procurement spending in 2023 alone soared to GH₵8.3 billion—far exceeding its GH₵935 million budget.
Economic analyst Senyo Hosi echoed calls for swift investigations, describing the situation as a deep governance failure requiring urgent reforms.
