Minister John Jinapor has directed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to deploy 200 new transformers. This initiative targets major urban centers to improve power distribution. It also aims to address recent supply challenges.
The decision comes after weeks of intermittent power outages. The goal is to strengthen infrastructure for growing industrial and residential demand. Despite concerns about load shedding, Jinapor assured that Ghana's overall power supply remains stable.
He noted that the country continues to export electricity to neighboring states. Speaking at the 2025 West African Mining and Power Expo in Accra, he emphasized the government's commitment to reliable energy delivery.
Jinapor expressed satisfaction with recent reports on stable power generation. He mentioned that Ghana has started exporting some electricity as well. He stressed the need for improvements in both transmission and distribution networks.
To this end, he approved ECG's urgent plan to inject 200 new transformers into major cities. This will ensure effective and efficient power transmission and distribution for consumers.
