Energy Minister must recover stolen ECG containers or be held accountable – Ntim Fordjour

Rev. John Ntim Fordjour is the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee. He has called for accountability from Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor. If Jinapor fails to recover stolen containers, he should be held responsible.

On March 27, Fordjour expressed concern about 1,328 missing containers. These containers belong to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and contain vital equipment.

Fordjour stated that the Minority in Parliament will not ignore this issue. He noted that the number of missing containers has changed drastically. Initially reported as 3,000, it dropped to 2,500 and now stands at 1,400. So far, only 40 of these containers have been recovered.

He described this incident as an “unprecedented scandal” involving $700 million. Fordjour emphasized the need for full recovery and accountability for those involved.

He insisted that everyone connected to this scandal must face prosecution. This includes individuals from all political backgrounds. “Crime has no colours,” he said, urging the NDC to take responsibility.

Fordjour pointed out that Ghanaians within the Ministry of Energy and ECG sold these stolen containers. He argued that foreign nationals are not responsible for this theft.

He criticized authorities for their lack of action in recovering the containers. “Isn’t it time Commando Jakpa should storm the port?” he asked humorously.

Finally, he reiterated that the Energy Minister must be accountable for this situation. If he fails to recover the stolen containers and prosecute those responsible, he should face consequences.
