Energy Minister on right track, he’ll fix dumsor – Kirk Koffi

Former Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Ing. Kirk Koffi, is confident in Energy Minister John Jinapor's ability to solve Ghana’s power outages, known as “dumsor.”

On May 20, Koffi spoke on Face to Face on Channel One TV. He dismissed claims that the current government is responsible for ongoing power issues. He explained that energy sector problems, especially fuel supply, take time to resolve.

Koffi noted that the new administration has just started its work. If there are fuel supply challenges, it takes time to arrange solutions. He mentioned that the government recently purchased crude oil.

While VRA no longer uses crude oil for power generation, some Independent Power Producers (IPPs) still do. This reliance creates cost and operational difficulties. Crude oil is much more expensive than gas and can cause issues if ECG delays payments.

Despite these challenges, Koffi remains optimistic about Jinapor's leadership in the Energy Ministry. He stated, “I heard the minister; he is going to fix it.” Koffi believes Jinapor is on the right track to address these problems.

He also reminded viewers of past crises when the same team helped stabilize the sector from 2014 to 2016 under President John Mahama.
