The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has rejected claims against Minister John Jinapor.
They say he is not inciting fear about the country’s power issues.
The Ministry insists his statements to Parliament are based on facts.
These statements aim to promote transparency about energy sector challenges.
Walewale MP Tia Abdul-Kabiru Mahama made the accusations.
In an interview with Channel One TV, he criticized Jinapor's communication style.
Mahama claims Jinapor uses fear to bypass standard procurement protocols.
“He’s been issuing one alarm after another,” Mahama said.
He believes this creates a false sense of urgency for contracts.
Mahama noted that over GH¢200 million in contracts were awarded without due process.
He urged Jinapor to stop scaremongering and become a “hope monger.”
Mr. Richmond Rockson, the Ministry’s Public Relations Officer, responded to Mahama's claims.
He stated that Jinapor provided an honest account of Ghana’s energy sector.
Rockson emphasized that the Minister aimed to inform, not panic people.
He pointed out urgent issues like rising energy sector debt of $3.1 billion as of December 2024.
Rockson also mentioned concerns about fuel availability for thermal power plants.
“The Minister said there were only 2.6 days of fuel left,” he explained.
However, he added that fuel had since been procured, which was overlooked in media reports.
