The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has made an important announcement.
The committee investigating the missing containers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has found 2,637 containers. This is a significant breakthrough in the ongoing investigation.
This new number is more than double the initial count of missing containers. It has sparked renewed public debate on the issue.
In March 2025, the Ministry reported about 1,300 ECG containers were unaccounted for. At that time, only 40 containers had been recovered.
On May 27, 2025, Richmond Rockson spoke on the Citi Breakfast Show. He is the Head of Communications at the Ministry. He explained the conflicting figures and how they verified them.
Initially, a team flagged 3,000 ECG containers as uncleared at the port. After taking office, the new Energy Minister learned about approximately 2,500 pending clearances.
Rockson stated that conflicting figures prompted an investigation into missing containers. The investigation revealed a total of 2,637 containers involved in this case.
Out of these, 2,583 are now confirmed to be with port authorities. Rockson emphasized that this probe was essential for reconciling discrepancies in ECG’s inventory.
He also suggested that more discoveries may follow if investigations continue. If allowed to proceed further, it’s possible more containers could be found.
