Eni Ghana, Vitol Upstream Ghana Ltd, and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) have started drilling at the Sankofa East 1X Side Track 2 well. This is located in the Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) block. This marks a new phase for Ghana’s oil and gas sector.
The operation uses the Deep Value Driller, a high-specification drillship. This ship features advanced automation technology. The partners are committed to securing Ghana’s long-term energy future.
The rig is one of the safest and most advanced globally. It began operations offshore Ghana after working in Côte d'Ivoire.
Eni Ghana stated that this activity shows their commitment to the OCTP block. They aim to ensure long-term production sustainability and enhance Ghana’s energy security.
Before drilling, Eni and its partners engaged with over 800 stakeholders along the coast. They consulted fishermen, local leaders, and community members through various outreach efforts. These were conducted with national institutions like the Environmental Protection Agency and others.
The outreach aimed to promote transparency and cooperation around drilling operations. It also focused on protecting local livelihoods and marine safety.
Eni has been operating in Ghana since 2009. The company currently produces about 34,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. Eni holds a 44.4 percent stake in the OCTP project, while Vitol owns 35.6 percent and GNPC holds 20 percent.
