Ensure effective implementation of free sanitary pad initiative

Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz is the MP for Savelugu in the Northern Region. She has called on the government to properly implement the Free Sanitary Pads Initiative. This initiative aims to help girls stay in school during their menstrual periods.

The initiative was recently launched by President John Dramani Mahama. However, Hajia Abdul Aziz warned that poor planning could undermine its success. She mentioned issues like weak infrastructure and funding gaps.

“The intentions behind this policy are noble,” she said. “No girl should miss school or use rags during her period.” She emphasized that good intentions need careful execution to avoid disappointment.

Hajia Abdul Aziz is also the Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament’s Gender, Children, and Social Welfare Committee. The government has allocated GH¢292.4 million for this initiative. This amount will serve two million girls, averaging about GH¢146 per student each year.
