Estate developer, 2 others charged with engaging in Landguard Activities

Court Update

The Accra Circuit Court has ordered three men to appear on April 15, 2025. They are accused of landguard activities in Prampram, near Tema. The court is presided over by His Honour Samuel Bright Acquah.

Their pleas have not been taken yet. The prosecution stated that investigations are still ongoing.

The accused are Enock Armah Tachie, 44, an estate developer; Francis Nii Armah Boyefio, 26, an ‘okada’ rider; and Alfred Brako, 37, a driver. They face three counts related to vigilantism and illegal firearm possession.

According to court documents, they are charged with conspiracy to commit crime. This includes violating the prohibition of landguard activities under the Criminal Offences Act and the Vigilantism and Related Offences Act.

On April 8, 2025, they allegedly organized as landguards at Prampram. They were reportedly protecting land for Chris Abbossey. The accused had a SAASILMAZ SAR pistol loaded with 34 rounds of ammunition.

Enock Armah Tachie faces additional charges for possessing a firearm without lawful authority. This violates the Arms and Ammunition Act from 1972 and its amendment in 1996.

Dr. Kofi Amoa Abban reported harassment by suspected landguards in Prampram. He alerted the Surveillance Unit of the National Operations Directorate about this issue.

Following his tip-off, a joint security team apprehended the three men. They were found guarding disputed land with the weapon mentioned earlier.

During initial investigations, Tachie admitted to having the weapon but denied being a landguard. However, he could not explain their presence at the site satisfactorily.

The accused have known ties to a vigilante group based in Ashaiman. Investigations revealed that Tachie's firearm was unregistered and had an expired license.

The court has remanded all three men into custody until April 15, 2025. Further investigations will continue before their next appearance.
