Estate developer, 2 others charged with engaging in Landguard Activities

Court Update

The Accra Circuit Court has ordered three men to appear on April 15, 2025. They are accused of landguard activities in Prampram, near Tema. The court is presided over by His Honour Samuel Bright Acquah.

Their pleas have not been taken yet. The prosecution stated that investigations are still ongoing.

The accused are Enock Armah Tachie, 44, an estate developer; Francis Nii Armah Boyefio, 26, an ‘okada’ rider; and Alfred Brako, 37, a driver. They face three counts related to vigilantism and illegal firearm possession.

According to court documents, they are charged with conspiracy to commit a crime. This includes the prohibition of landguard activities under Section 23(1) of the Criminal Offences Act and Section 7(3) of the Vigilantism and Related Offences Act.

On April 8, 2025, the accused allegedly acted as landguards. They were found protecting land for Chris Abbossey in Prampram. They had a SAASILMAZ SAR pistol loaded with 34 rounds of ammunition.

Enock Armah Tachie faces additional charges for possessing a firearm without lawful authority. This violates the Arms and Ammunition Act from 1972 and its amendment in 1996.

Dr. Kofi Amoa Abban reported harassment by suspected landguards in Prampram. He alerted the Surveillance Unit of the National Operations Directorate about this issue.

A joint security team apprehended the three men while they guarded disputed land with a weapon. During initial investigations, Tachie admitted he had the weapon but denied being involved in landguard activities.

However, they could not explain their presence at the site satisfactorily. Their known affiliation with a vigilante group based in Ashaiman raised further concerns.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Tachie's firearm was unregistered and its license had expired. The court has remanded all three men into custody until April 15, pending further investigations.
