Even John Mahama was investigated how much less Ofori-Atta – OSP

Kissi Agyebeng, the Special Prosecutor, spoke to the media on June 2. He mentioned that his office investigated a former President without needing to chase him.

He referred to the investigation of John Mahama during his opposition role in the Airbus Scandal. Agyebeng questioned why they would need to pursue a former finance minister.

Agyebeng asked, “What is so special about Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta?” He criticized Ofori-Atta for claiming he was unwell and could not attend meetings.

He noted that even a former president complied when invited. Agyebeng insisted that if Ofori-Atta is sick, he should provide a medical report.

He emphasized that many people receive treatment in the U.S., and real medical reports are signed by hospital administrators.

At the press conference, Agyebeng announced that Ken Ofori-Atta is now considered a fugitive of justice. He has initiated an INTERPOL red notice for Ofori-Atta's arrest and extradition.

Agyebeng stated, “About 30 minutes before this brief, I triggered processes for an INTERPOL red notice.” This notice will help locate and provisionally arrest Ofori-Atta.

The Special Prosecutor rejected Ofori-Atta’s request for a virtual session. He insisted that Ofori-Atta must appear physically at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

Agyebeng said, “We want him here physically, and we insist on it.” He added that suspects cannot dictate how investigations are conducted.

The OSP has accused Ofori-Atta of causing financial loss to the state in various dealings. These include issues related to the National Cathedral project and contracts with Ghana Revenue Authority.

Meanwhile, Frank Davies, part of Ofori-Atta’s legal team, defended his client’s absence due to health issues. He stated that Ofori-Atta is currently undergoing treatment in the United States.

Davies questioned why people find it hard to understand his client’s situation. He argued that if someone suffers a health issue suddenly, they cannot keep appointments as planned.

He concluded by stating that everyone knew about Ken's health challenges before these charges were prepared against him.
