Ghanaian media personality Afia Pokua, known as Vim Lady, has shed light on the long-standing issue of politicians seeking medical treatment abroad, revealing that even former President Jerry John Rawlings did not trust Ghana’s healthcare system.
Speaking on the Gyaso Gyaso program, she disclosed that Rawlings once traveled to Switzerland for medical care under the false name “Paul Gyamfi” to conceal his identity.
She argued that this highlights systemic failures that persist to this day.
Vim Lady also pointed out that Rawlings’ daughter, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, studied medicine abroad instead of in Ghana, questioning why leaders fail to invest in better healthcare locally.
She urged Ghanaians to push for real reforms, saying, “If we don’t fix our hospitals now, it could be anyone tomorrow.”
