Even in America, people are interested in who’ll run in 2028 election – Mussa Dankwah justifies early poll

Mussa Dankwah is the Executive Director at Global InfoAnalytics. He responded to critics who say it’s too early to discuss the 2028 elections. The country has only had a new government for four months.

Critics questioned the timing of his recent poll. Mr. Dankwah defended the survey, saying people’s views change over time. “At every point in time, people will have a view,” he said.

He emphasized that tracking numbers from the start is crucial. “We don’t care to know what the numbers are from the beginning,” he explained.

Mr. Dankwah made these comments during an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem. His remarks followed a poll showing Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the leading candidate for the NPP flagbearer position in 2028.

The survey revealed that 48% of Ghanaians prefer Dr. Bawumia to lead again. He holds a significant lead over other candidates like Kennedy Agyapong and Dr. Osei Adutwum.

Kennedy Agyapong received 25%, while Dr. Osei Adutwum got 13%. Other candidates combined earned 14%.

Mr. Dankwah stressed knowing baseline numbers early is important for assessment. “If you are in 2024 and tomorrow the number drops or goes high, you will know,” he said.

He also noted that others are campaigning for the 2026 flagbearership already. He questioned if they should stop because it’s too early.

“That is life; people plan their future from day one,” he stated.

As pollsters, their job is to gauge public sentiment over time. “We believe there is value in what we are doing for our own work,” he added.

Mr. Dankwah referenced discussions about the U.S. presidential race in 2028 already happening there. “You must know the baseline to guide everyone,” he concluded, emphasizing that understanding public opinion is essential.
