Every excavator must be tracked 24/7—Lands Minister

The Lands Minister of Ghana, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has emphasized the necessity for continuous tracking of all excavators used in mining activities. This initiative aims to combat illegal mining and ensure that operations are conducted within legal frameworks. The minister's directive comes as part of broader efforts to regulate the mining sector and protect the environment from degradation caused by unregulated activities.

During a recent meeting with stakeholders in the mining industry, Jinapor highlighted that tracking excavators would enhance accountability and transparency. He noted that illegal mining has significant negative impacts on both the environment and local communities, leading to soil erosion and water pollution. By implementing a tracking system, authorities can better monitor equipment usage and prevent illicit operations.

Furthermore, Jinapor reiterated the government's commitment to formalizing small-scale mining while ensuring compliance with environmental standards. He called for collaboration among various stakeholders to create a sustainable framework for mining practices in Ghana. The minister's proactive stance reflects an urgent need to address challenges within the sector while promoting responsible resource management.
