In a recent development, former Criminal Investigations Department (CID) head, Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, has accused Inspector General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare of obstructing the appointment of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) for Operations, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. She claims that her recommendation for Dr. Dampare's promotion was ignored due to personal biases.
Addo-Danquah expressed her disappointment during an interview, stating that she had put forth Dr. Dampare’s name based on his qualifications and contributions to the police force. However, she alleges that IGP Dampare's actions were influenced by a desire to maintain control over the police hierarchy and prevent potential rivals from rising within the ranks.
The controversy highlights ongoing tensions within Ghana's police leadership and raises questions about transparency in promotions. As discussions continue regarding police governance and integrity, Addo-Danquah’s accusations may prompt further scrutiny into the decision-making processes at the highest levels of law enforcement in Ghana.
