Ex-ECG MD vindicated as missing ECG containers mysteriously reappear at Tema Port

Samuel Dubik Mahama, the former ECG Managing Director, has been vindicated. The missing ECG containers have mysteriously reappeared at Tema Port.

During the container issue, Mahama stated that containers cannot go missing. He questioned if the Committee checked the GPHA terminal and other holding terminals. He emphasized that a container has a unique number and is not like paper.

Mahama said, “I believe strongly the containers are at the port.” He noted that only two entities control those containers: Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) and Ghana Customs. He asked if the Committee checked all relevant terminals.

Richmond Rockson, spokesperson for the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, revealed new findings. Investigators traced 2,637 unaccounted ECG containers at Tema Port. This number exceeds the initially reported 1,300 containers.

Rockson explained that a committee involving National Security and other agencies led this probe. They discovered these containers as of April 30, 2025. The locations included:

- 860 at Meridian Port Services
- 1,237 at GPHA Terminals
- 272 evacuated by National Security
- 194 at Amaris Terminal
- 20 at ATLAS Manufacturing Terminal

He also mentioned that 2,437 containers had overstayed their clearance window. These have incurred excessive demurrage charges.

On the Citi Breakfast Show, Rockson discussed conflicting figures received by the minister. An investigation was ordered to determine how many containers were missing. It revealed a total of 2,637 involved; out of these, 2,583 are confirmed with port authorities now.
