Kwabena Kufuor, nephew of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, faces serious accusations. He allegedly offered a $10,000 bribe to Dr. Hanna Bissiw-Kotei. She is the newly-appointed Administrator of the Minerals Development Fund (MDF). The bribe was meant to silence her about an inflated office rental agreement worth $1.4 million.
Dr. Bissiw-Kotei stated she did not accept the bribe. Instead, she reported it and said, “So the money is there.” During an interview on Metro TV’s Good Afternoon Ghana, she revealed that Mr. Kufuor owns the office space in question.
For 12 years, previous administrators paid $9,600 per month for this space. Dr. Bissiw-Kotei expressed concern over this high cost. She described the office as merely “a cubicle” in poor condition.
She noted that staff had to keep files on the floor due to a lack of storage. To illustrate her point, she mentioned a nearby facility rents for about $6,500 per month. This comparison highlights concerns over the inflated rental cost.
Dr. Bissiw-Kotei lamented that high rent affected their operations significantly. “We had staff we couldn’t pay,” she said, adding they struggled with expired vehicle insurance and documents too.
The MDF administrator emphasized her commitment to quality work and accountability. She denounced financial malfeasance and corruption in her role.
