President John Mahama has assured Ghanaians of positive developments ahead. Key economic updates are expected in the mid-year budget review in August.
“I’m sure we’ll have more good news for Ghanaians,” he said. This statement came during his 'Thank You Tour' in the Upper West Region.
He noted early signs of economic recovery. A stronger cedi and lower living costs show that reforms are working.
“Our focus has been on stabilising the economy,” Mahama explained. In March, they presented a budget to cut spending and prioritize key programs.
The President praised his economic team, especially the Finance Minister and Bank Governor. He highlighted their collaboration in steering the recovery.
“I commend them for their coordination in this turnaround,” he stated.
On infrastructure, Mahama announced upcoming major projects under the Big Push Programme. Roads will be a top priority for these initiatives.
"Cabinet will soon approve priority projects under this programme," he revealed. Key projects include dualising major highways and building new bridges nationwide.
A new expressway between Accra and Kumasi is also planned. It aims to reduce travel time between these cities to two and a half hours.
In the Upper West Region, urgent attention will be given to roads like the Watumu–Bolgatanga Trunk Road.
“During our campaign, we saw how bad the roads were here,” he said. The Watumu–Bolgatanga Trunk Road is now a priority under the Big Push Programme.
Mahama reaffirmed NDC’s commitment to inclusive development across Ghana. He emphasized support for historically neglected areas like Upper West Region.
“We aim to bring transformational change everywhere in Ghana,” he said. This includes regions with great potential that have long been underdeveloped.
