The Western Region branch of the Ghana National Association of Garages (GNAG) has made an appeal. They want the government to speed up the review of the ban on salvage vehicles.
Salvage cars are severely damaged vehicles. Their safety cage or chassis may be broken, cracked, bent, or twisted. These vehicles are often abandoned and have little value except for parts and scrap metal.
The association believes this issue is critical. It affects the growth and stability of Ghana's auto mechanic industry.
Mr. Justice Jeo Aryitey, the Western Regional Chairman, made this appeal. He spoke at a meeting with Mrs. Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare, the Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry. The meeting took place in Takoradi yesterday to discuss this matter under the Customs Amendment Act, 2020 (Act 1014). However, this act has yet to be implemented.
