Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Ghana’s longest-serving legislator, has assumed the role of Speaker for the 9th Parliament.

In his acceptance speech, he emphasized unity, collaboration, and Parliament’s role as a “bulwark of democracy.” Drawing on his four years as Speaker in a challenging hung parliament, Bagbin pledged to foster efficiency and effectiveness in the new term.

He called for trust and cooperation among MPs, prioritizing national interests over political divisions.

Addressing the nation, he urged Ghanaians to engage with Parliament’s work, committing to transparency and inclusivity.

As he begins his term, Bagbin’s leadership will be key in navigating Ghana’s polarized political landscape. His focus: unity, progress, and a stronger democracy.
