Eyewitness disputes A-G’s $7m claim in Adu-Boahene case

An eyewitness in the case against Kwabena Adu-Boahene has raised doubts. He is the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB). The Attorney-General claims that GH¢49.1 million equals a $7 million transaction.

According to asaaseradio.com, this source remains anonymous. He argues that using the government’s exchange rate of GH₵5.45 to the dollar, the amount is over $9 million. This discrepancy raises concerns about the prosecution's financial accuracy.

The source insists that the GH₵49.1 million was not part of any dollar-based transaction. Instead, it was disbursed in cedis for special operations funds related to national security assignments.

This statement supports Adu-Boahene's defense. He claims that the funds were used for various operational activities. These included payments to Members of Parliament and support for election-related engagements.

However, the Attorney-General’s office alleges misconduct by Adu-Boahene and his associates. They claim he diverted money for personal gain, including real estate and luxury vehicles.

The prosecution argues that these funds were intended for a $7 million cybersecurity contract with ISC Holdings Limited. They assert this contract was never executed, leading to charges of stealing, defrauding by false pretenses, and money laundering.
