FAGE President backs gov't's ‘Feed Ghana’ programme

The President of the Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE), Mr. Davies Narh Korboe, praised the government for launching the 'Feed Ghana programme.' He called it a bold step toward national food self-sufficiency.

Mr. Korboe spoke on Accra 100.5 FM's Ghana Yensom morning show on May 19, 2025. He emphasized that agriculture can end Ghana’s over $2 billion annual food import bill with proper investment and support.

He believes the Feed Ghana policy can ensure food security and create jobs for youth. If implemented with modern farming methods, it could transform agriculture in Ghana.

Mr. Korboe welcomed both the previous government's Planting for Food and Jobs initiative and the new Feed Ghana programme. He stated that providing farmers with machinery and support can reduce food imports significantly.

He highlighted that mechanisation includes all aspects of agriculture, from production to marketing. The FAGE is committed to supporting this government initiative for its success.

Mr. Korboe also discussed the need to rebrand agriculture to attract youth. He noted that farming has a negative image as outdated and laborious, which discourages young people.

He pointed out that a lack of funding and modern tools has further pushed youth away from farming. However, he stressed that agriculture offers diverse career opportunities beyond just planting and harvesting.

To engage youth in agro-export, Mr. Korboe announced this year’s Horticulture Expo from June 11 to 13, 2025. This event will train young people and connect them to opportunities in agricultural export.

The expo aligns with the government’s 24-hour economy policy and will include research, innovation, and networking opportunities for future agro-exporters.

Mr. Korboe urged stakeholders like government agencies and private investors to support the expo for agricultural transformation in Ghana.

“This expo is not just another event — it’s a game-changer,” he said. “It will equip young people with knowledge, tools, and networks needed for success in agribusiness.”
