The Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA) has commended President John Dramani Mahama for appointing women to lead key security institutions, describing the move as a significant step toward gender equality and the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Agenda.
FOSDA highlighted the appointment of DDGP 3 Patience Baffoe-Bonnie as Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service and DCFO Daniella Mawusi Ntow-Sapong as Chief Fire Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service. The organization sees these appointments as a strong commitment to inclusive security governance.
“These appointments align with the government’s dedication to empowering women in security leadership and support the implementation of UN Security Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security,” FOSDA stated.
Congratulating the new appointees, FOSDA acknowledged their vast experience, citing Baffoe-Bonnie’s work in prison health reform and human rights advocacy and Ntow-Sapong’s contributions to fire safety and operational efficiency.
FOSDA urged the Mahama-led government to sustain this progress by promoting gender-responsive budgeting and ensuring accountability to achieve gender balance in security services.
“We encourage President Mahama to build on these gains by appointing more women to leadership positions in the security sector,” said Theodora W. Anti, Executive Director of FOSDA.
