Fact-check information to counter falsehood - MFWA - Ghanaian Times

Sulemana Braimah, Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), has called for urgent action. He wants to tackle the rising issue of misinformation and disinformation in Ghana.

Misinformation spreads false information without intent to deceive. Disinformation, however, is the intentional spread of false information to manipulate people.

Braimah warned that false information from media and political groups harms democracy. It fuels violence and undermines public trust in institutions.

At a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, he noted rising ethnic tensions. Regions like Upper West, Upper East, and Bono East are particularly affected by misinformation.
