President John Dramani Mahama has warned political appointees. Any breach of the new Code of Conduct will lead to disciplinary measures.
The Code was launched on May 5. It sets ethical standards for public officials. It prohibits them from awarding contracts to themselves, relatives, or close associates.
President Mahama called these actions a serious violation of public trust. He promised to eliminate such practices from his administration.
He cautioned against using insider knowledge for personal gain. This includes awarding contracts linked to oneself or family members.
Disciplinary consequences await any appointee who violates the Code. These can include reprimands, suspension, or dismissal, regardless of status.
Mahama emphasized the need for full disclosure from officials with business interests. This applies even if they are not involved in daily operations.
“If you are a dormant partner in any business,” he said, “you must disclose it in writing.”
He specified that this should not be done through calls or relatives. An official declaration is required instead. Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action, he warned.
