Akonta Mining Responds to Government License Revocation Plan
Akonta Mining Limited has denied allegations of illegal mining.
These claims involve activities in the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve.
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, ordered the company’s license revoked.
Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, owns Akonta Mining.
In a statement, the company called the government’s allegations false and misleading.
They stated, “We are not responsible for activities in the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve.”
The company emphasized that responsibility lies with the Forestry Commission and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
Akonta Mining criticized the Minister's public accusations as unfair.
They argued that revoking their license without investigation breaches natural justice.
The company believes this action is politically motivated.
Despite these issues, Akonta Mining will cooperate with state investigations.
They assured they have nothing to hide and support transparency.
“All our documents, permits, and official correspondence are available for public scrutiny,” they stated.
