Family of late PURC Board Chair pays courtesy call on President ahead of final funeral rites

The family of Professor Thomas Mba Akabzaa visited the Presidency on June 3. They announced his passing and discussed funeral plans with President John Mahama.

Former Minister Albert Abongo led the delegation. He was joined by notable figures, including Ing. William Amuna, Dr. Charles Abugre, and MP Charles Bawa Dua. Other members included Edward Bawa, Dr. Shafic Suleman, and Esther Akabzaa.

Professor Akabzaa's widow, Mary Akabzaa, and their children were also present. The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, received the delegation on behalf of the President.

Energy Minister John Jinapor attended as well. Nana Yaa Jantuah and the Chief Director at the Presidency were also there.

Mr. Debrah praised Prof. Akabzaa as “a true statesman.” He noted that his legacy in Ghana’s energy and mining sectors is unmatched.

He assured the family of full state support to honor the late professor.

Minister Jinapor paid an emotional tribute to Prof. Akabzaa. He called him a mentor and “a father figure” whose dedication never wavered.
