The farming community of Nyanoa in the Upper West Akim District is mourning. A 45-year-old farmer, Azumah Zakari, has died.
Police reports state that Azumah died on Saturday, April 5, 2025. His death followed a violent confrontation over land.
Eyewitnesses say he was shot in the left leg by two suspected land guards. They are identified as Kobby Asaa and an accomplice known as Red. Both suspects are known for their violent activities and are currently on the run.
After being shot, Azumah bled heavily. There was no immediate transportation to a health facility. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Asamankese Government Hospital.
The suspects reportedly have ties to the Chief of Nyanoa, Osabarima Opoku Okyere II. They are known for intimidating residents over land disputes.
Police from Nyanoa and Asamankese have visited the crime scene to investigate. They urge residents to provide any information that could help arrest Kobby Asaa and Red.
Meanwhile, Azumah's widow, Adwoa Augustina, is seeking justice. She tearfully pleaded with authorities for action.
"My husband went to work and never returned alive," she said in an interview. "I beg the police to arrest those who killed him."
Azumah Zakari's body has been taken to the Asamankese Government Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy as investigations continue.
