Former Minister for Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, commented on Felix Kwakye-Ofosu's role as Minister for Government Communications. He believes it is one of the toughest jobs in governance.
Oppong Nkrumah, a former Information Minister under the NPP administration, shared his thoughts during JoyPrime's Prime Morning Show on April 9. He wished Kwakye-Ofosu well in his challenging position.
"Felix is doing a very difficult job," he said. "I wish him well; he is doing his best." He noted that time will reveal how effective Kwakye-Ofosu is in this role.
He added, "You have appointed five or six other information ministers. You can compare their performances later."
Oppong Nkrumah emphasized the brutality of the job. He suggested that the Communications Minister should ideally be a senior technocrat closely connected to the President.
"This role requires careful attention and strategic communication with the public," he explained.
He further stated, "You need a senior adviser to the President for communications." This person would help manage issues arising from other ministers' communications challenges.
"If you make a top person in communications a minister, they can't discipline others," he warned. "They can't report issues to the President without facing backlash."
"You need someone who sits at the table with the President," he concluded. This person can effectively manage and discipline ministers creating communication problems.
