Felix Ofosu Kwakye critiques GBA’s stance on Chief Justice suspension

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State for Government Communications, is surprised by the Ghana Bar Association's (GBA) recent statement. He believes it shows a shift in their tone regarding the Chief Justice's removal process.

On April 24, 2025, the GBA urged strict adherence to constitutional procedures and the rule of law. Mr. Ofosu Kwakye noted that this position differs from their "traditionally hostile stance" toward National Democratic Congress (NDC) governments.

In a social media post, he stated, “This GBA statement is a marked departure from their traditionally hostile stance towards NDC governments.” He also mentioned that neither the GBA nor other critics have shown any constitutional violations by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo or the Council of State.

His comments come amid a national debate about the President’s decision to suspend the Chief Justice. This suspension follows Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution and awaits an investigative committee's findings.

The GBA has not made a definitive judgment on this case. However, they emphasized that all parties must uphold the rule of law and apply constitutional provisions fairly. They called for discretion and impartiality since the matter is still under consideration.
