The Accra High Court has ordered the prosecution to file witness statements against Kwabena Adu-Boahene by May 26, 2025.
Justice John Eugene Nyadu Nyante presided over the case. He expressed concerns about the rights of the accused. He urged the Deputy Attorney General to speed up the trial.
Kwabena Adu-Boahene, his wife Angela Adjei-Boateng, and two others face serious charges. They are charged with stealing, fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy. The couple allegedly stole GHc 49 million in state funds.
Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine filed 11 charges against them at the High Court in Accra. Adu-Boahene was initially remanded but later granted bail. However, he was re-arrested for a different crime.
His lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, stated that this arrest involved National Security issues. It relates to internet services provided to Ghana Water Limited.
Dr. Ayine revealed that Adu-Boahene redirected payments from Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) to his own company. GWCL was supposed to pay ₵650,000 biweekly for secure internet services.
A contract required GWCL to pay GHS1.3 million monthly for these services. Instead of going to the Bureau of National Communications, this payment went into Adu-Boahene’s personal account.
