An Accra High Court has ordered the prosecution team in the trial of Kwabena Adu-Boahene to file all witness statements by May 20, 2025.
Justice John Eugene Nyadu Nyante issued this order to the Attorney General. He expressed concerns about the personal liberties of Mr. Adu-Boahene and encouraged a speedy trial.
Mr. Adu-Boahene and his wife are currently on bail. The case has been adjourned until May 26.
Background
Attorney-General Dominic Ayine has charged Kwabena Adu-Boahene and his wife Angela Adjei Boateng with corruption offences involving millions of cedis.
They, along with Mildred Donkor and Advantage Solutions Limited, face 11 charges. These include stealing, money laundering, defrauding by false pretences, and causing financial loss.
The writ filed on April 30 states that Mr. Adu-Boahene oversaw national security infrastructure contracts. He signed a deal with ISC Holdings Limited for cyber defence software costing $7 million.
Adu-Boahene is accused of transferring approximately GHS 49 million (around $7 million) from NSB funds into his personal accounts. He allegedly justified these transactions as payments for cyber defence systems with help from an accomplice.
On May 2, the court ordered that Mr. Adu-Boahene be held in custody by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for seven working days. This was to allow the Attorney General to prepare witness statements.
