Finance Minister Ato Forson meets FABAG leadership, vows lasting economic stability and lower food prices

Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, met with the Food and Beverage Association of Ghana (FABAG) on May 8. They discussed the economy, food pricing, and ways to ease living costs for Ghanaians.

On his Facebook page, Dr. Forson called the meeting “frank and productive.” He highlighted the need for collective action.

During the discussion, he reassured FABAG members about recent economic improvements. The cedi has appreciated, and key indicators have stabilized due to careful planning.

He emphasized that this stability is permanent and not just temporary.

Regarding food prices, Dr. Forson urged FABAG to lower retail prices quickly. He stated that high food prices must decrease significantly.

He welcomed reports of some members already reducing their rates. Dr. Forson also encouraged other trader groups to follow FABAG’s example.

He asked them to work together to pass benefits on to Ghanaians.

Finally, he outlined ongoing structural reforms aimed at reducing costs. These include reviewing port charges and combating smuggling.

Dr. Forson supported FABAG President John Awuni’s call for a national price reduction campaign. He affirmed that the Ministry of Finance aims to convert economic gains into real relief for citizens.
