Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson met with Chinese Ambassador H.E. Tong Defa today. They aimed to strengthen collaboration and explore new partnerships between Ghana and China.
Dr. Forson reflected on past achievements, noting the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant. He mentioned, “With China’s support, we built it during my time as Deputy Minister.” He added that it is now time to build a second gas processing plant.
The meeting shows a renewed commitment to infrastructure and economic development. They discussed major initiatives announced by President Nana Akufo-Addo, including the Accra-Kumasi Expressway.
These projects are being considered ahead of the Mid-Year Budget Review. Dr. Forson emphasized the need for support from partners like China. He referenced a Chinese proverb: “If you want to get rich, build roads first.”
He also highlighted several near-completed Chinese-funded projects in Ghana. He expressed optimism about starting new projects soon. Sustained collaboration is crucial for growth and connectivity.
“Most Chinese-funded projects in Ghana are near completion,” he stated. He hopes new ones will begin shortly.
Additionally, Dr. Forson requested China's help with Ghana's debt restructuring process. The Chinese Ambassador welcomed the dialogue and confirmed readiness to assist.
Ambassador Tong Defa stated, “The bilateral agreement and development partnership are ready to be signed.” This signals China’s ongoing commitment to Ghana’s economic transformation.
