Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, the Finance Minister, praised the National Economic Dialogue. This event took place from March 3rd to 4th in Accra.
He stated, “It is on record that the dialogue was one of the best.” He found the content interesting and noted clear outcomes. Dr. Forson spoke during a report presentation by Dr. Ishmael Yamson to President John Dramani Mahama.
On February 3, 2025, the President formed a seven-member Planning Committee. This was part of his 120-day Social Contract with Ghanaians.
The National Economic Dialogue aims to communicate Ghana’s economic state clearly. It also seeks to develop a fiscal consolidation program for budgeting. Additionally, it highlights key reforms and policies needed for economic recovery.
The committee organized the Economic Dialogue successfully on March 3rd and 4th. They presented their report to the President on June 4, 2025.
Dr. Forson noted significant changes since the dialogue occurred. He mentioned inflation was at 22 percent then; now it is at 18.4 percent.
He added that the currency exchange rate has improved as well. It was GHC 15.5 to one US dollar; now it is GHC 10.29.
Dr. Forson believes these changes indicate progress and optimism for the future.
Dr. Ishmael Yamson expressed confidence in their recommendations for the President. He suggested making the National Economic Dialogue a permanent consultative mechanism.
