Finance Minister inaugurates GoldBod board, charges members to bolster economic recovery

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has inaugurated the new 13-member Board of Directors for the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBoD). He described this institution as vital to Ghana’s economic transformation.

At the ceremony, Dr. Forson congratulated the board members on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama. He urged them to strengthen Ghana’s gold trade and improve transparency. Their work will support broader economic recovery efforts.

Dr. Forson highlighted that Ghana's renewed focus on gold is showing positive results. He noted the impressive performance of the Ghanaian cedi in global markets.

“As of May 13, 2025, the cedi appreciated by 16.7% against the US dollar,” he said. This makes it the world’s best-performing currency this year.

He credited this turnaround to strong coordination between monetary and fiscal policy. Improved inflows from gold, cocoa, and remittances also contributed to this success.

The Minister stated that establishing GoldBoD is crucial for sustaining economic gains. It will help ensure better management of Ghana’s natural resources.

“The Ghana GoldBoD will be key to our economic transformation,” he added. The government expects transparency, efficiency, and integrity from the board.

Dr. Forson expressed confidence in Mr. Kojo Fynn's leadership of the new board. He believes they will perform their duties with professionalism and national responsibility.

He concluded by calling for a collective effort to build a stronger economy. “Let’s continue building a resilient economy together,” he said.
