Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam has requested Parliament’s Finance Committee to approve a withdrawal of GH₵500 million from the Contingency Fund to combat imminent food insecurity caused by a severe dry spell across eight regions in Ghana.
This request follows President Akufo-Addo's directive to raise an GH₵8 billion relief package for affected farmers.
The funds are needed as the government cannot reallocate the entire GH₵8.36 billion from the 2024 Budget.
The government has also banned the export of key grains like maize, rice, and soybean to ensure domestic availability.
