A fire broke out at the Tema Community 9 Market on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. The blaze destroyed several structures and disrupted local businesses.
The fire was reported at 12:32 PM. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded quickly.
Fire crews from three stations arrived and extinguished the flames in two hours.
Fifteen structures were affected by the fire. This included three wooden homes and nine metal containers used for business.
All twelve of these structures were completely destroyed. Three additional containers suffered partial damage.
Fire officers prevented the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings. Fortunately, there were no injuries or casualties reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The GNFS has identified where the fire started, which may help determine its source.
The service praised the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, NADMO, and the Ghana Police Service for their support during this incident.
Authorities urge market vendors and residents in fire-prone areas to follow safety measures to prevent future fires.
