Fire outbreak – 18 Maaha Beach Resort rooms, and 15 Vision Resort rooms destroyed

DO2 Mark Hamilton, the Ellembelle District Fire Commander, reported a fire outbreak. The fire destroyed 18 rooms at Maaha Beach Resort and 15 rooms at Vision Resort.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, May 28, 2025. It severely damaged several beachfront structures near the main pool area.

Reports indicate that the fire started around 7 p.m. in the kitchen of Vision Beach. It quickly spread to parts of Maaha Beach Resort.

An eyewitness stated that the fire tender from Atuabo Gas Processing Plant could not help immediately. She explained, “The fire didn’t start from our end but from Vision Beach.”

She added that it began in the kitchen and spread to their resort. The Ghana Gas fire tender was passing by but couldn’t assist due to chemical concerns.

Due to delays, they called for additional fire tenders from Axim and nearby areas. “We asked the MP's assistant to call for help,” she said.

Speaking to Citi News, DO2 Hamilton provided details about the damage. He confirmed that no casualties occurred and that all affected rooms were unoccupied.

He stated, “For Maaha Beach, 18 rooms were affected. For Vision Resort, 15 rooms were affected.” He assured that Maaha is still operational.

Hamilton noted that they received a call at 07:59 hours and arrived by 08:04 hours. He clarified there was no issue with the Ghana Gas fire tender; it arrived in under four minutes.

They later requested a second pump from another station for assistance. Two pumps were on site during the response effort.
