Fire ravages Maaha Beach Resort, several structures destroyed

Maaha Beach Resort, located in the Ellembelle District, faced a major fire on Wednesday evening, May 28, 2025. The fire destroyed several beachfront structures and accommodations near the main pool area.

The blaze reportedly began around 7 p.m. in the kitchen of Vision Beach, a nearby resort. It quickly spread to Maaha Beach Resort, damaging its infrastructure.

An eyewitness spoke to Citi News anonymously about the situation. They mentioned difficulties in controlling the fire. The nearest fire tender from Atuabo Gas Processing Plant could not respond immediately.

The witness explained that the chemicals used by their firefighting team were unsuitable for this type of fire. “The fire didn’t start from our end but from Vision Beach,” they said.

They added that they called the personal assistant of the MP for help. Fire tenders from Axim and nearby areas eventually arrived to assist. However, delays allowed flames to consume more structures before help arrived.
