The Bono East Regional Fire Command held a one-day fire safety workshop. It was for 42 fuel station managers from Techiman and nearby areas. The goal was to improve safety measures and reduce fire risks in the petroleum sector.
Regional Fire Officer ACFOII Rev Naomi Ofori-Adubea Sarpong led the initiative. The workshop focused on raising awareness about potential hazards. It also aimed to implement best practices for fire prevention at fuel stations.
Key topics included the dangers of cooking on-site and safety protocols for fuel tankers. Participants learned about the importance of renewing fire certificates annually.
Participants were advised against cooking at fuel stations. Cooking increases the risk of explosions due to volatile fuel.
Regarding tanker safety, the RFO stated that tankers should remain idle for one hour after arrival before discharging fuel. She emphasized that fuel stations need firefighting tools and first aid kits. Trained personnel or firefighters should be present during discharge operations.
An interactive forum allowed participants to engage with fire officers directly. They could ask questions and seek clarifications on fire safety issues.
The forum highlighted the importance of routine inspections by certified experts. Strict compliance with regulatory protocols was also stressed.
This workshop is part of a broader strategy by the Ghana National Fire Service. The aim is to reduce fire incidents, enhance public safety, and protect properties in high-risk areas across the region.
