Transport Minister Kwaku Ofori Asiamah has announced that Kumasi’s Prempeh I International Airport will receive its first international flight, operated by Ethiopian Airlines, by December 2024.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, the minister confirmed that ongoing upgrades to the airport infrastructure, including the new terminal, are on track. Both the new and existing runways will remain operational.
He added that contractors are mobilized, aiming for full airport operations by early 2025.
Highlighting the airport’s significance, Mr. Asiamah said, “This project will transform Kumasi into a major hub and boost development in the Ashanti region.”
He credited President Akufo-Addo’s leadership for driving infrastructure development across Ghana.
