The first group of 425 Ghanaian Muslim pilgrims has arrived in Jedda, Saudi Arabia. They traveled to perform the 2025 Hajj.
The pilgrims were flown directly from Yakubu Tali International Airport in Tamale. They arrived on Saturday. More pilgrims will depart in batches over the coming days.
About 6,000 pilgrims are expected to travel from Ghana this year. This is an increase of 2,000 compared to last year's 4,000 from northern Ghana.
Collins Dauda, Chairman of the Interim Hajj Taskforce, visited the airport with other officials. They included Northern Regional Minister Adolf Ali John and Minister of Interior Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka. They bid farewell to the prospective pilgrims.
Dauda advised the pilgrims to be disciplined and law-abiding in Saudi Arabia. He assured them that safety measures were in place for their stay.
He also mentioned that meals would be provided daily during their time in Madina. Standard hotels have been secured for them in Mecca.
Minister Muntaka wished the pilgrims a safe journey. He promised high-quality service and comfort during their pilgrimage.
He encouraged them to pray for peace and stability in Ghana. The Northern Regional Minister also provided advice on completing their Hajj successfully.
Some prospective pilgrims expressed satisfaction with the arrangements made by Hajj agents and the committee. They feel prepared for a successful pilgrimage.
