Five confirmed dead on May 18 Accra floods

Richard Amo Yartey is the Director of Inspectorate at NADMO. He reported that five people died in the Accra floods on May 18.

Two deaths occurred in Adenta, and three in Ga East Municipality. Yartey attributed these deaths to poor drainage systems in Accra.

He spoke on Channel One, stating, “Our records indicate that five lives were lost.” He emphasized the need for better education on flood risks. He urged citizens to pay attention to weather warnings.

Yartey noted that flooding is a result of inadequate drainage infrastructure in Accra.

Meanwhile, Tabitha Ayillah from the NPP expressed her anger towards Deputy Chief of Staff Stan Dogbe and Minister of Defense Omane Boamah. She criticized them for discussing football on social media during the floods.

Ayillah said it was sad and shameful they showed no empathy. Speaking on Good Morning Ghana, she asked, “Where is the empathy?”

She highlighted that both men should care about Ghanaians' livelihoods. Ayillah pointed out their lack of communication during this crisis.

She added that while people struggled to find shelter, they were focused on football online. She checked their social media but found no statements addressing the situation.

Ayillah criticized them for using taxpayer money while ignoring urgent needs.
