Five political parties deny receiving GH¢8m support from former NSB head Adu Boahene

Five major political parties have denied claims from Kwabena Adu Boahene. He is the former head of the National Signals Bureau. Adu Boahene claims he spent over GH¢8 million on election logistics for opposition parties.

He alleged that an opposition party received GH¢8.3 million to support election results collation. In his letter, he mentioned that $500,000 was used to buy communications equipment for this party. He also claimed that GH¢7,285,000 funded "elections special operations" for the 2020 general elections.

This amount covered logistics and payment of allowances. Additionally, he stated that GH¢6,764,000 was paid for logistics and allowances for the December 2024 elections. Adu Boahene emphasized that these funds aimed to ensure national stability and peaceful polling.

The political parties denying these claims include the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Convention People’s Party (CPP), Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), Ghana Union Movement, and Liberty Party of Ghana. Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer is the Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the NDC.

He firmly denied any financial connection with the National Signals Bureau. Speaking on JOY News, he stated that the NDC has nothing to do with Adu Boahene's story. He suggested that everyone knows which opposition party is being referred to in this context.

Dr. Tanko-Computer questioned why a rival would fund his campaign against them in an election. The governing NDC has challenged Adu Boahene to name specific parties involved in these allegations while other political parties continue to distance themselves from his claims.
