For the first time in Ghana’s recent economic history, GUTA has called price reduction – Franklin Cudjoe

Franklin Cudjoe is the President of IMANI Africa, a policy think tank. He noted that GUTA has called for price reductions for the first time in Ghana's recent history.

Dr. Joseph Obeng, president of GUTA, urged traders to adjust prices. He stated this request follows the appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi against major currencies.

GUTA believes that lowering prices is necessary due to this currency strengthening. Dr. Obeng emphasized that adjusting prices would benefit consumers and promote fairness.

Cudjoe highlighted that this call for price reduction comes just 125 days into John Mahama's administration. He shared his thoughts on social media, noting GUTA's unusual request.

He remarked on the positive management of the currency and economic discipline. Cudjoe expressed relief at not being under previous leadership he deemed ineffective.
