Foreign Affairs Ministry cancels 701 diplomatic and service passports

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has cancelled 701 passports. This includes both diplomatic and service passports.

The cancellation follows a nationwide recall of official travel documents. Many former officials did not return their passports despite multiple announcements.

On Tuesday, the Ministry confirmed that 341 diplomatic and 360 service passports were not returned. These passports are now on a stop-list and are invalid for international travel.

Affected passport holders include former ministers, Members of Parliament, and Council of State members. It also includes retired justices, former regional ministers, and former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs). Additionally, some businesspersons, religious leaders, and officials involved in the National Cathedral Project are affected.

The Ministry stated that all cancelled passports must be confiscated if used. They warned of strict enforcement at all entry and exit points. This directive follows the Passports and Travel Certificates Act of 1967 (NLCD 155).

The Ministry is committed to ensuring responsible use of official travel documents. Only those lawfully entitled should possess them.
